In an effort to facilitate a seamless transition from legacy mainframe systems to modern cloud-based infrastructure, Google Cloud has joined forces with mLogica, a company specializing in database and mainframe modernization. This strategic collaboration aims to help enterprises reduce risks associated with updating their mainframe applications.
Under this partnership, Google Cloud’s Dual Run service is being integrated with mLogica’s LIBERM, an automated platform designed for code refactoring. LIBERM offers functionalities such as automated assessments, code analysis, dependency mapping, and transformation of various programming languages. Meanwhile, Dual Run enables organizations to run applications simultaneously on both mainframe and cloud environments, allowing for real-time validation of the modernized applications before fully migrating them.
A significant advantage of Dual Run’s dual-execution capability is that it eliminates the need for downtime during the transition process. Traditional mainframe migration often requires temporary suspension of operations, which can disrupt business activities. By ensuring that applications continue to function while being modernized, enterprises can accelerate their digital transformation while mitigating potential risks and cost overruns.
Beyond this collaboration with mLogica, Google Cloud provides an extensive suite of mainframe migration tools. These include Radis and G4, which are designed to support specific application modernization tasks. Additionally, enterprises can leverage solutions such as the Gemini-powered Mainframe Assessment Tool (MAT), Mainframe Code Rewrite, Mainframe Refactor for Batch, Mainframe Application Replatforming, and the Mainframe Connector, depending on their unique migration needs.
Google Cloud is not alone in this space. IBM also offers mainframe modernization services through its AI-driven watsonx platform, which specializes in code transformation. Furthermore, Kyndryl, a former IBM subsidiary, has established partnerships with both Microsoft and AWS to deliver mainframe migration services. In collaboration with Microsoft, Kyndryl integrates its zCloud mainframe service with the Power Platform, while its partnership with AWS extends additional modernization options to enterprises.
As cloud adoption continues to rise, these collaborations and tools are set to play a crucial role in helping enterprises modernize their legacy systems efficiently and securely.
