Lotus Microsystems Introduces vStrata to Improve AI Data Center Power Efficiency

Lotus Microsystems has unveiled vStrata, a new power-delivery architecture designed to raise data-center power efficiency at a time when energy use is becoming a major concern across both AI and non-AI infrastructure.

At the core of the platform is Lotus’s proprietary Power Interposer Technology (PIT), a silicon-based interposer approach that moves power conversion and delivery closer to the processor package. PIT uses a vertical power delivery (VPD) chip and package to send electrical power directly through the package stack to the processor.

What vStrata Is Trying to Solve

By shortening current paths and bringing thermal management into the power-delivery design itself, vStrata is intended to reduce conversion losses while improving cooling efficiency. Lotus says the module can reach point-of-load efficiency of up to 96%, and can cut power-conversion losses by more than 50% compared with conventional designs.

CEO Hans Hasselby-Andersen said the company focused on a more efficient power topology, meaning more of the input power reaches the load and less is wasted as heat. He also noted that Lotus’s silicon substrate technology helps remove heat from the solution, so the platform addresses both electrical efficiency and thermal management.

Why Efficiency Matters

Typical power converters are about 90% efficient, so Lotus’s reported 96% efficiency represents a meaningful improvement. That reduction in power loss becomes especially important in GPU-heavy data centers, where the cumulative savings can lower cooling demands enough that some deployments may avoid liquid cooling and continue using air cooling instead.

Hasselby-Andersen said the technology could reduce not just energy used for cooling, but also water consumption in data centers.

Compatibility and Rollout

Lotus says vStrata is compatible with existing power-management controllers and reference designs, which could make adoption easier for semiconductor and system vendors. The platform is being delivered as power supplies, and Lotus is working with major server vendors and hyperscalers.

However, the new power supplies are not intended as drop-in upgrades for existing server racks. Hasselby-Andersen noted that server power supplies do not follow a single industry-standard footprint, so there is no universal form factor to retrofit into every rack design.

The first module in the vStrata lineup, the LSC0580, is scheduled to ship as engineering samples in Q3 2026.
